Project Search

Welcome to Project SEARCH® at Jewish Home — a pre-employment program for young adults with disabilities in partnership with Heritage Christian Services.

Designed to support total workplace immersion, Project SEARCH® facilitates a seamless combination of curriculum-based instruction, career explorations, skills assessment, and hands on-training through three different non-paid internship rotations, each 10-12 weeks in duration.

Where is it located?

The program takes place at the Jewish Home campus. Classroom instruction is at The Summit Independent Living community with a range of work experiences available across multiple departments at every location on our campus.

The following are examples of work experience opportunities available at Jewish Home:
• Administrative Assistant
• Concierge
• Creative Arts Assistant
• Culinary Assistant—Food Prep
• Dishwasher
• Environmental Service Technician
• Hair Salon Assistant
• Laundry Services Technician
• Maintenance Technician Assistant
• Resident Service Technician
• Supply Management Assistant
• Therapeutic Recreation Assistant

Who is eligible?

Young adults, ages 18-35, who have finished high school are eligible to apply. Program participants must be eligible for the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD) services and be enrolled in the Medicaid Waiver. Access to reliable transportation is essential, as interns are responsible for their own transportation, either private or public.

What is the program structure?

The program lasts ten months, running from September to June. It starts with onboarding and a two-week orientation. From October to May, interns complete three ten-week rotations in different departments, accompanied by work-life skills training. The program ends in June with a formal celebration and, if relevant, assistance for employment transition.

Project SEARCH® program days are Monday through Friday, 8am to 2pm.  A typical day includes classroom instruction, hands-on job training with support from Heritage Job Skills Coaches and Jewish Home department mentors, and a daily debrief and wrap-up session. The goal is to provide interns with marketable and transferable skills that can lead to employment and increased community involvement.
