ROCHESTER, N.Y., November 11, 2021—Jewish Home announces that it is now offering free, confidential memory screenings to the public in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA) as part of its National Memory Screening Program. The screenings consist of a series of questions and tasks designed to gauge memory, language skills and other intellectual functions. It takes approximately 10-20 minutes, making it easy and convenient for individuals to be screened.
“Adding this capability to our comprehensive array of memory care programs and services reinforces Jewish Senior Life’s commitment to raising awareness of dementia including Alzheimer’s disease,” says Christine Van Vessem, Vice President of Staff Development & Quality Management. “The program is open to anyone, whether there is a memory concern, risk for dementia, or if they just want to see how their memory is now as a baseline for future comparisons. It provides a starting point for individuals with concerns about memory loss.”
A memory screening is not used to diagnose any particular illness and does not replace consultation with a physician; however, it is an important first step toward finding out if an individual may have a memory problem.
Memory screenings are offered virtually through Zoom or in person at Jewish Senior Life’s Atkin Center for Outpatient Rehabilitation, 2021 Winton Road S., Rochester, NY. For more information or to schedule a memory screening for yourself or someone you know, please contact memoryscreen@jewishhomeroc.org or call (585) 784-6530.
