The Jewish Home of Rochester Receives IWBI’s WELL Health-Safety Rating – First in the Region
The achievement signals market-leading commitment to resident health, safety and well-being

June 8, 2022 – Rochester, New York – Jewish Home, a senior living community serving more than 1,000 residents and patients in Rochester, NY, announced today that its skilled nursing facility and the Jewish Home of Rochester spanning four buildings, has received the WELL Health-Safety Rating from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), the leading global authority on healthy buildings. The accomplishment marks the first in the region.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating is an evidence-based, third-party verified rating for all new and existing buildings and spaces focusing on operational policies, maintenance protocols, stakeholder engagement and emergency plans to address a post-COVID-19 environment now and into the future. The rating, launched in 2020, has now been adopted in more than 100 countries at almost 24,000 locations representing 2.3 billion square feet of space.

“Since our founding, we have set out to provide the very best in senior living, creating an inclusive, vibrant community rooted in compassion and care,” said Michael S. King, President and CEO, Jewish Home. “The health and safety of our residents has always been paramount, and today, by achieving the world’s foremost rating for healthy buildings, we are once again demonstrating our unequivocal commitment to our residents’ health.”

“I am excited to see Jewish Home in Rochester receive our WELL Health-Safety Rating,” said Rachel Hodgdon, President and CEO, IWBI. “This wonderful community is demonstrating exceptional leadership and ensuring its residents and staff are benefiting from WELL’s science-backed strategies that promote health and well-being.”

Designed to empower owners and operators across large and small businesses alike to take the necessary steps in order to prioritize the health, safety and well-being of their staff, residents, visitors and all other stakeholders, the WELL Health-Safety Rating can help guide users to operate and manage their spaces with evidence-based strategies in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, instilling confidence in those who come through the building as well as the broader community.

The Jewish Home of Rochester was awarded the WELL Health-Safety Rating following the successful completion of third-party documentation review to confirm it has met the feature specific intents and requirements. Sixteen key strategies were met by the Jewish Home, including but not limited to monitoring air and water quality, promoting health and well-being for staff and residents, promoting vaccines, and bolstering emergency resilience.

The WELL Health-Safety Rating provides a centralized source and governing body to validate efforts made by owners and operators. It leverages insights drawn from the IWBI Task Force on COVID-19, in addition to guidance by the World Health Organization (WHO), U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), global disease control and prevention centers and emergency management agencies, as well as recognized standard-making associations such as ASTM International and ASHRAE, and leading academic and research institutions, as well as core principles already established by IWBI’s WELL Building Standard.
