Jewish Home Shares Message that Older Adults Deserve Better from Governor Hochul

(Feb. 5, 2024 – ROCHESTER, NY) Governor Hochul’s budget proposal imposes over $500 million in cuts to nursing homes, $400 million in Medicaid savings targets, and millions of dollars of reductions to operating and capital rates, which impacts the Jewish Home and all nursing homes in Rochester and across the State.

The consequences will be dire and result in more Rochester area hospital overcrowding at a time when nursing home placement is already strained as a direct result of Medicaid funding shortfalls of $810 million and growing.

President and CEO Michael S. King recorded a video to help educate the Rochester community about the issue and to share information about the impact.

To help ensure older adults have access to nursing home care, Jewish Home is asking for the community’s support in sharing advocacy messages with legislators to:

  • Vote no to the Governor’s proposed budget.
  • Urge legislators and the Governor to include a 16% Medicaid rate increase to nursing homes and rebase rates.
