Jewish Home Now Offering Panoramic Dental Radiographs Onsite

(May 16, 2024 – ROCHESTER, NY) Jewish Home has acquired a new dental radiographic imaging system in their onsite dental suite as part of the array of services offered to nursing home residents. The Planmeca ProOne offers panoramic dental X-rays with standing or seated access for easy patient positioning, efficient diagnostic and imaging ability, and reduced radiation compared to traditional radiological systems.

Daniel Mendelson, M.D., Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Services, says, “Having this technology on our campus aligns with our philosophy of person-centered care—we’ve created a home that fits the residents and their needs, not the other way around,” says Dr. Daniel Mendelson, Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Medical Services. “Transportation can be expensive and sometimes appointments get rescheduled. In-house staff operating this technology is not only convenient but also reduces stress for residents and eases the burden on our transportation system. Proper dental care not only improves residents’ quality of life but also decreases the risk of some diseases and enhances nutrition.”

Jewish Home’s dental services are offered on Thursdays by Michael S. Mayer, DMD, who initially started as a volunteer intern through the Alpha Omega International Dental Society over 30 years ago. He agrees with Dr. Mendelson regarding the convenience of onsite dental imaging and adds, “Not only is this technology saving the staff time in coordinating transportation to offsite appointments, but also saves time for the resident—they can have their results in one appointment!”

Dr. Mayer additionally operates a private dental practice in Fairport, is a faculty member at the UR Medicine’s Eastman Dental, and has been the official team dentist for the Rochester Red Wings for 19 years.
