Jewish Home Certified as a Great Place to Work®

JULY 20, 2022—ROCHESTER, NY—Great Place to Work® Institute and its senior care partner Activated Insights have honored Jewish Senior Life (JSL), Rochester’s only designated Continuing Care Retirement Community, with certification as a Great Place to Work for the third year in a row.

The certification process involved surveying 100% of employees across JSL’s continuum of care and evaluating more than 60 elements of team members’ experience on the job. These included employee pride in the organization, the belief that their work makes a difference, and feeling that their work has special meaning. Rankings are based on employees’ experiences, no matter who they are or what they do.

“Jewish Home is honored to be recognized for being a great place to work. Our employees are special people who take immense pride in what they do to support the people we serve. As an organization we want to provide every employee with the support they need to do what they love at a place where they enjoy working,” said Michael S. King, President and CEO, Jewish Home.

Survey respondents answered questions that measure five dimensions of trust: credibility, respect, fairness, pride, and camaraderie.

Overall, JSL received a higher score than the national benchmark of like organizations, earning a Trust Index® score of 78—compared to the national benchmark of 71. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, JSL has grown its Trust Index® score year over year for the past three years and this year surpassed comparative benchmarks in nearly all areas, especially in the pride employees feel in their work, having a safe work environment, and having the resources and equipment needed to do their jobs.

A variety of recent employee-centered actions at JSL include:

  • A WELL Health-Safety Rating from the International WELL Building Institute, the leading global authority on healthy buildings, for the Jewish Home of Rochester
  • Wage increases and enhancements to benefits
  • Employee recognition activities
  • Wellness offerings and career development training
  • Frequent recognition celebrations and food trucks
  • Flexible scheduling and support for the nursing team
  • Streamlined process for job applicants
  • Scholarships and hardship support
  • Internship for students with disabilities through Project Search, a partnership with Heritage Christian Services
  • Training-to-hire programs for Home Health Aides and Certified Nursing Assistants

Thousands of companies each year use the Great Place to Work Trust Index® model to assess their workplaces and benchmark themselves against the Best Workplaces in the world.

“We are proud to be listed among other employee-validated great workplaces across the country, such as Wegmans, Google, and MasterCard,” King shared. “We extend a big thank you to our employees for completing the survey, and more importantly, for their hard work and dedication.”

“We applaud Jewish Senior Life for seeking certification,” said Dr. Jacquelyn Kung, of Great Place to Work’s senior care partner Activated Insights. “These ratings measure its capacity to earn its own employees’ trust and create a great workplace for high performance.”

JSL has career opportunities available for Certified Nursing Assistants, Licensed Practical Nurses, Registered Nurses, Companions, Social Workers, and Food Service Workers. For more information visit JewishSeniorLife.org/Careers.
