Governor Hochul’s budget proposal presents a dire situation for nursing homes, including the Jewish Home and others in Rochester. The proposed cuts amount to over $500 million, with an additional $400 million in Medicaid savings targets. These cuts, along with reductions to operating and capital rates, will have severe consequences for our facilities, staff and the residents we serve.
The impact directly affects the quality of care and accessibility to nursing home services. As a result, we anticipate increased hospital overcrowding in the Rochester area, compounding the existing strain on nursing home placement due to Medicaid funding shortfalls of $810 million and growing.
It is crucial to protect the interests of our most vulnerable citizens. We are calling on legislators to vote against Governor Hochul’s proposed budget and to support a 16% Medicaid rate increase for nursing homes while rebasing rates for the future.
