Internships help people with disabilities spread their wings

Rochester Business Journal – Jeffrey Nelson is entering his third rotation of internship with Jewish Home. He feels he has learned job skills that give him confidence he can find a paying job, possibly in a kitchen.

Jewish Home is providing these internship opportunities to adults with disabilities through a partnership with Heritage Christian Services. Project SEARCH, a nationally recognized work preparation program for people with intellectual or developmental disabilities, pairs an organization and a community agency to offer invaluable job training to individuals, giving them confidence to enter into the work force. “We really were wanting to offer opportunities that these young adults don’t typically have,” said Christine VanVessem, Jewish Home vice president, staff & organizational development.
